Schedule Between Christmas and New Year’s Eve

Schedule Until New Year’s Eve

We will be running a shortened training schedule this week, with an Open Gym format.

Are there any benchmark workouts you want to complete before 2012?  Come get ‘em done!

Come work on skills as well.

Coaches may add some additional times, so check the schedule for daily updates.

December 23, The 12 Days of Christmas and White Elephant Exchange

Our CrossFit Christmas celebration will come Saturday at 7:00 and 8:00am!

Bring your workout gear and a white elephant gift to exchange. (It should cost no more than a Lamborghini Murcielago).

Coach Brandon has been scheming all year long for the perfect celebration, and is now ready to unveil it to the gods and goddesses of CrossFit Mt Olympus.

Bring family, friends, and people you don’t like!

Schedule Next Week

We will be running a shortened training schedule next week, with an Open Gym format.  We will still program workouts, but classes will start every 30 minutes instead of on the hour.  Come work on skills as well!

Coaches may add some additional times, so check the schedule for daily updates.

Artificial Sweeteners

Ask Dr. Andy

Andy Hemmert, resident Biochemist at CrossFit Mt Olympus

Diet Soda and Artificial Sweeteners

Q:  “I don’t know about you, but I love diet soda. I drink a Diet Pepsi every day, and if a Diet Pepsi with Lime is available, even better. I have always rationalized with myself, that while soda may not be good for you, at least diet soda had a zero effect. Not good, but not bad. Is this true?

A: Researchers have shown that people who drink diet soda, or use artificial sweeteners actually have a 41% greater chance of becoming overweight compared to those who drink regular soda, or use natural sweeteners (sugar, honey, etc.)

How can this be? You are not consuming any calories with artificial sweeteners, but certainly are with sugar. Scientists think it is because when you body tastes the sweetness of artificial sweeteners, which are often 200x sweeter than their natural counterparts, your body expects calories with that sweetness. If those calories are not there, your body will think it is still hungry and you will consume more food to gain those expected calories. In other words, while you might not be consuming calories from artificial sweeteners, your body might lead you to overeat to obtain the anticipated calories.

Should I kick the Diet Pepsi and go for the normal Pepsi, maybe…better yet I should stick with water, milk, or tea.”

What would you like Dr Andy to research?  Send in your requests.

December 09, Schedule Changes Coming!

As we enter the busy holiday season, we want to do everything we can to get you a workout.

Tracy will take off her training wheels and begin teaching her own class on Fridays at 3:30!

CrossFit Mt Olympus can make you THIS happy!
CrossFit Mt Olympus can make you THIS happy!

Each class will still last an hour, but a new one will start every 30 minutes instead of on the hour.  This will allow one group to warm up and cool down while another does the workout of the day.

Check the Class Schedule for updates.  We will experiment with a new schedule this Friday and possibly roll it out for other evening classes.   Please let us know what you think and how it works for you.
